Omnipage 16 OCR problems

Question

Originally the software worked (about 4 times) then it showed a warning which basically said that there was an application problem. I have installed then uninstalled the software several times, but every time the 'load up'
works fine until I actually attempt to scan some text. At that point everything stops and I get the above warning notice.
As a silver surfer I 'm beginning to think that I cannot grasp what to do any more, but the OCR product is becoming a more essential tool in my life style.
The printer/scanner is an Epson RX640 and therefore does not contain it's own OCR tools.
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.
