  1. It is called cauterizing a wound.  Helps to prevent bleeding and seals it from infection.

    For more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cauterizati...

  2. it is done so the wound will stop bleeding

  3. You gotta seal the wound to keep it from getting infected.  It stops bleeding as well.  Crazy I know

  4. prevents infection and stops bleeding. Also 3rd degree burns don't hurt because the nerves get damaged in the burning. It was common in that time to do such things. I beleive in one of the Rambo's Stalone also did this with a wound he had gotten.

  5. COS THIS IS SPARTA!

nah it seals the wound to stop infection and bleeding.

hurts like a mother and leaves a monster of a scar.

    Its called cauterizing.

  6. Cauterize

It will stop bloodflow, and kill bacteria in the area. (They didn't know that of course, they just knew it worked)

  7. it was supposed to help the wound seal faster. they actually did do this in those times. it was painful (duh!) but they say it worked.

    nice insights though. =)

  8. to keep it closed like stiches do

  9. It stops bleeding and kills germs.

  10. im 98% sure they do this to close up the wound coz back in them days they didnt have the same resources as today...like hospitals medication ect....we are lucky!!!!

and it also stopped infection too because they didnt have the medications and stuff so if you got infection thats what basically killed you not the actual wound!
