Well I live in a small town called Felixstowe, and I can think of at least 4 bottle bank sites straight away. Is the BC wrong on this one or is it true where you live ?

  1. It all depends on where you live as some councils now collect Glass with their doorstep recycling collection. I live in Portsmouth and we have a vast number of bottle banks but in the district where my husband runs the recycling scheme you don't find very many as each household has a glass recycling box.

  2. besides bottles are made from glass -which is made from sand which is one thing that the planet has a complete sh*tload of..

..it uses more energy to recycle glass than to create new stuff from scratch.

  3. They certainly aren't rare around here, but I can't remember the last time I used one.... they pick it all up from my house nowadays!!

Makes a change from chatting to my son about the "great party we had at the weekend" (mythical) while I put my 900 wine bottles in the bank.... now all my neighbours can see them on my drive!!!!

  4. I agree that bottle banks are possibly in decline due to the rise in kerbside collection, but can't see the sense of placing them in bags. Surely the containers for seperate colours are alot safer??

I can also think of 4 near me, though 3/4 are in supermarket carparks. In middlesex.

  5. Yes it's true and it only makes sense as we are getting a higher percentage of kerbside collections, why waste money on recycling banks?

  6. Just as Dory is saying.    It all depends on council plans and whether the area some one's living is privatized.  I live in Folkestone and the town has changed from labour to conservative.   I mostly see wheelie bins around houses but not many bottle banks, but walking down the hill there are 2 bottle banks outside a very popular pub,and then again when I walk towards the seasiside there are 2 bottle banks outside a very well known building called the Pavillion.
