I'm a junior & I attend college full time; I'm 23 yrs. old. I still live at home w/ my parents. When I started reapplying for my financial aid this year, FAFSA recognized me as an "independent" due to my date of birth. Am I required to answer the questions about my parents & their financial info. What are the pros/cons of answering/not answering the questions. Please help me!

  1. You are not required to answer the questions about your parents informaton.  If you do the info would just be ignored so dont waste your time.  If you do answer them, it won't make you "dependent" again.  Dependency status isn't determined by where you live.  You are still required to answer information about yourself, including the info off your income tax returns or if you don't file taxes your W2 forms.

No pros, no cons, just what happens... you've got no choice.
