On Fire Baby to bounce back into form for the TVG Acorn Stakes at the Belmont Park
On Fire Baby leads the line-up of the Grade 1 TVG Acorn Stakes (3YO Fillies) on dirt that will be hosted by the Belmont Park over a mile on Monday, 28th May. The winner among the line-up of six will be awarded the £116,129 prize money.
The connections are once more relying on the three-year-old grey/roan filly even though she was a bitter disappointment in the most recent race of the season. However, in terms of experience and successes she takes the lead without any doubt.
Smoke Glacken’s daughter has claimed half of the outings from the six races that she took part in over the two seasons. She was pretty determined at the beginning of the season, with placing third and then grabbing the next race but failed to qualify upon
her own benchmark by the starting of May.
Foaled by Ornate, the three-year-old filly penetrated into the new season on 16th January in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park over a mile. The race was won by Junebugred who swept across the wire by a neck’s advantage over Reckless Jerry.
Not giving much breathing space to the runner up, the 6/4 favourite of the race, On Fire Baby, settled third.
Owned by Anita Cauley and trained by Gary Hartlage, On Fire Baby did not wait too long for posting the seasonal victory. She won the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes on 10th March at Oaklawn Park over a mile and half a furlong.
Sent as a favourite for a straight second time during the new season, she led the field of eight by two lengths. She set Amie’s Dini into the runner up’s position while Colonial Empress reserved the third slot.
Expecting that she will pair up wins, On Fire Baby was entered in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks on 4th May at Churchill Downs over a mile and a furlong. She scored the fifth position as the race was won by Believe You Can while the 14/5 favourite
of the race, Grace Hall, ended third.
She is against some real competition today as the winner of the Eight Belles Stakes, Contested is racing today along with Sacristy, a Grade 3 winner.
