On Google Earth what does the brownish rectangle mean?

  1. Google Earth is not really satallite photos,  but composite of many photos taken from planes then patched together.    Could be different exposures or loss of file quality in handling.

  3. When a satelite takes a photo of an area, every photo will have different color tints and quirks, due to atmospheric coloration and/or satelite lens differences. This photo just happens to stick out because it is surrounded by differently hued pictures. There is no actual meaning (this area is not any different in air or land quality)
