  1. Living in South Africa at that time it did not bother me. My thoughts were, if people are prepared to take stupid, pointless, risks then they accept the consequences. The whole space thing was a political propaganda 'race' with the Soviets and a colossal waste of money, and some lives. Sorry but that was/ is my view.


  2. I was in college and had just woke up, turned on the TV and saw the shuttle on the pad.  Decided to continue to watch since I hadnt seen a launch for awhile.  I thought that the booster rocket separation didnt look right at all.  Then thought the TV camera was not following the shuttle very well as it was showing a solid rocket booster flyng everywhere.  Then they said "The vehicle is lost".  Then I knew it had exploded.
