On MS Word, how can I change the header of a single page?

Lets say I want to have a different header format for a random page in my document? Can I do it? I have chapter titles as headers of pages but for a blank page I want to keep in the middle, I don't want any chapters...

I know how to remove header from the title page. I'm not asking that.

Thanks in advance.

  1. You can make the blank page a section unto itself by putting section breaks before and after it, then edit the text out of the header for the blank page.  This may, however, foul up your page numbering, as there's no good way to automatically not count the blank page.

To insert section breaks in versions of Word prior to Word 2007 (Vista), do this:

    1. Click the mouse at the point you want to insert the section break.

    2. Click the Insert->Break menu item.

    3. Click the Next Page radio button.

    4. Click OK.

    5. Repeat the above where you want to insert the second section break.

Now to break the links between the headers so you can edit the blank page's header:

    1. Put the cursor on the blank page.

    2. Click the View->Header and Footer menu item.

    3. On the menu that pops up, click the Same as Previous button (usually fourth to the left of the Close button) to break the link between the headers.

    4. Double click in the page's footer and do the same

    5. Double click in the NEXT section's header and repeat the above.

    6. And again for the third section's footer.

You now have three sections with distinct headers and footers.  Note that changing the first section's header or footer will no longer change the third's.

    Hope that helps.
