On Mario Kart Wii why did everyone constantly get hit by blue shells?

My sister and I were playing online and when the race started before anyone could get a block I got hit by 2 blue shells and like every 2 seconds whoever was first got hit 2 at a time.

maybe  a server error, did it do more than once?

also

during online play, i got hit by a blue shell 3 times in under 10 seconds

i think  they added more blue shells

If you go onto youtube there is a vid and it shows a hacker bombing everyone with blueshells as they get them unlimited by using something called the homebrew channel. btw im not a hacker :P I will give you the link XD
