I know the colored ones are illegal on a motorcycle, but I've received mixed answers on the clear white ones. Since they have no color are they harmless?

  1. I was in CA. at a vendor booth that installed LED lights in all colors, A CHP booth was right next to them and were doing courtesy checks on the motorcycles as they rolled out.

The law states "According to the CHP" that none of the lights may shine directly in any direction, or be visible, but may reflect in any direction, and be any color.

Only white may face front, and only red may face to the rear directly.

  2. Red is not illegal (brake light duh)... you are ok with white, amber and red... (headlight, turns, stop, marker light colors)-- blue, green, purple... those are considered distractions or in the case of blue... too close to some cop lights.

  3. Normaly, only lites that candistract or duplicate other lites like red and blue are illeagal, hilighting in general isnt.
