With the rising tides .How long before most coastal low level sites will no longer support normal dry land living and a massive ecological immigration will take place ... more then 25 years ? 50 years ? or the next 10 years ?

For now I am safe 300m from shore on a 100ft cliff so I don't worry much ...YET

  1. There are a lot of assumptions here.  The earth's environmental system is a lot more complex than  simple linear equations can predict.  One study I saw showed that the predicted warming has either paused or begun to reverse with a logical model based on the oceanic conveyor.  This conveyor is what draws warm water north and cool water south, in the northern hemisphere, that is.  With the northern polar ice cap melting, the conveyor has slowed to the point that the northern waters will begin to freeze over and northern storms will begin dumping more snow causing a reversal in glacial retreat.  This will slow and reverse coastal erosion unless there are other factors beside rising oceanic waters such as rip tides.

    Hope this helps.

As for the cliff ... if it's formed of volcanic rock you won't need to worry about its erosion in your lifetime no mater if the sea levels rise or fall ... barring other major catastrophe.

Edit:  ek_1_gk, I understand that changes are afoot.  Since you're on the Atlantic seaboard of the US, your cliff may not survive the erosion as long as I first indicated since it's likely just packed earth, sedimentary rock, or sandstone, some will weather better than others.

I'm still taking a 'wait and see' attitude since there are a lot of other forces at work in the overall equation than what gets hammered on in the mainstream news (such as the weakening magnetosphere and the slowing oceanic conveyor).  Be prepared for either continued loss of land in low-lying areas, or for colder weather soon, but don't buy all the hype wholesale without doing some investigation.

  2. Some places coastal currents cut, some places they deposit.

That 300 M./Yr. is lateral movement of banks in many cases.

You'll have to do some research on your local conditions.
