On Phantom of the Opera, what does it mean when they say "keep your hand at the level of your eyes"?

  1. It's really not that confusing once you think about it.

    Remember how the Phantom hung Joseph Buquet in the movie? Also, remember how he lassoed Raoul as well at the end? He has a lasso called the Punjab lasso that he got while he was in Persia (it doesn't talk about this in the movie, but the original book) This lasso is his choice weapon and Madame Giry knows all about it because she knows the Phantom the best out of all of them. That is why she warns Raoul to "keep your hands at the level of your eyes"...she knows what the Phantom will do to him. If Raoul keeps his hand up by his eyes, he can prevent the lasso from strangling him completely.


  2. remember how he strangled the stage hand in the first part of the Opera. If you keep your hand at eye level and someone tries to put a noose around your neck your hand will be in the noose, and you can keep from being strangled.

    I think I'll watch that movie today.. thanks!!
