On Sims 2, can you build several of the same item without having to keep clicking the item in buy mode?

I want to buiod several of the same item on sims 2. Is there a quick way of doing this? If so how? I have these expansions/ Pets, open for business, seasons, university, H&M stuff, nightlife, celebration stuff

unlike counters which we seem to be able to just keep adding to the home there are items we can only get on of at a time.

I think its the alt key, it could be ctrl or shift sorry. buy one item and then pick it up and press one of those keys , move the object over a square and another will be in its place. It just duplicates the item you have in your hand.
