On The Fringe aiming to repeat the history in Racing Post Champion Hunters Chase at Punchestown
On The Fringe has a great chance to repeat his 2010 glory and clinch the top rank in the Racing Post Champion Hunters Chase, taking place at Punchestown on Wednesday, May 9th.
Brian Price Memorial Champion Hunters Chase, held in April 2010, was On The Fringe’s debut appearance at Punchestown. Despite a tremendous amount of pressure, he did not make any mistake.
The dashing runner dominated the proceedings all the way through, defeating the 2-1 favourite, Kilty Storm, by 1¾ lengths.
In his recent outing at Punchestown, E. Bolger’s trainee was not impressive at all. The Irish Field Chase saw him suffering a terrible tumble in the final stages of the event.
It was a huge setback for On The Fringe’s fans, who were expecting the 9-4 favourite to seal the first position. On The Fringe is well capable of making a strong comeback. Let’s see how he utilises his skills to bag the winning prize worth €14,300.
The 3m1f event is scheduled to commence at 19:50 GMT. Taking part in the event are: On The Fringe, Equus Maximus, Rudi Trucker, Warne, Big Shu, Mister Top Notch, Good Egg, Ambobo, Mat Hill, That Beats Banaher, Whyso Mayo and Dom Fontenail.
Equus Maximus is another strong candidate for the top prize. The 12-year-old made his seasonal debut at the end of last month, when he grabbed the first position in the Geaney Property Developments Ltd Open 4yo+ (4yo Mdns Excl) at Ballindenisk.
Punchestown’s conditions are entirely different and thus, Equus Maximus will have to be on top of his game. The veteran gelding has registered four wins so far in his career.
Both Rudi Trucker and Warne are also major players, as they are coming into this battle after performing well lately.
Warne won the RK Trucks Ltd Open 4yo+ (Mdns Excl) at Kirkistown in February this year. Rudi Trucker also has a fresh win under his belt. At the start of last month, the 10-year-old delivered a winning performance at Ballynoe.
On The Fringe is facing a strong opposition today. Therefore, he will have to perform out of his skin to produce a positive result. We wish the best of luck to everyone.
