The website said everything in your carry-on bag must be able to fit in a quart/liter -sized plastic bag.... but does it have to be in it?

plus- what if it fits in that size bag, but is in a gallon size instead?

For our checked lugage, does this rule apply, also?

  1. oh no. The TSA rules (who control ALL security limitations for all airports no matter which airline) for carry-ons are as follows:

all LIQUIDS or GELS or CREAMS must be in individual containers no larger than 3oz.  THOSE must fit into a quart sizefd plastic bag.  Everything else is perfectly fine not in a plastic back. (and no the bag can't be larger it MUST be one quart or one litre, and only ONE bag per person)

For checked luggage you can bring as much and in any size that you want.  However, I highly recommend putting liquids/gels etc into plastic bags (of any size you wish) just in case something happens and they burst, that way it doesn't get all over everything.

    Good luck!

  2. No...what it mean is, if you are taking anything that is liquid/gel it needs to be in 3 oz containers and they all have to fit in a plastic quart size zip lock bag.  This is not a United rule, it is a TSA rule and it applies to all airlines.  examples would be shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, face cream, hand lotions etc. The rules on the TSA site are pretty specific. I've added the web site if you want to view it.
