  1. Hello and welcome to the 360.. To make your own custom theme with your own background is really easy to do :o)

There are two rules that you must remember about background pictures you use on Yahoo. They have to be the jpg file type and they can't be over 250kbs in size.

Okay here we go step by step.

    1. Look for the option that says Change Theme..

    2. Click the option and when you get to the theme page look at the top of the page for the option USE Custom Theme, and click it.

    3. This will take you back to your editing page.. ( your MY PAGE) and a popup will appear on the page.

    4. There are slot there to browse your computer to find a jpg file type, not over 250kbs in size image for your back ground.

    5. The first one is set to tile your image as a multiup of it on the background by repeating the image over and over.

    6. The next two are for putting an image at the top, center, and bottom of your background. I never use this option because it just never works like I want it to, I always use the tiling option.

    7. After you have chosen the background image scroll down in the popup and you will find a slide color picker to choose the module color, font style and color, border color .. etc. or in the color slide box that appears when you click onto the square you will find the option Transparent .. putting a check in this box will make you modules transparent with no color.

    8. After you have made all your selections click the preview or save button at the bottom of the popup and it will save your selections and post your new background.

    9. After you have successfully done this once.. the option you will then find on your page to change your theme will be Edit Custom Theme and it will not take you to the Yahoo premade theme page again.

The size restrictions are really annoying at times but there is no helping that one at all!

This is a link to a group you should join on Yahoo. They have loads of background images and tutorials about the whole thing and the owners of the group are really nice folks who will even take your request and make a background just for you! Have fun new friend!

  2. You can either use the backgrounds created by Yahoo, which you can't adjust in any way OR you can create a custom theme. If you want to use the pre-made background, click on the "My Page" link next to your "Home" link. Then, at the top under that line of links is the word "Theme: [name of whatever theme you currently have]." Click the "Change Theme" link that's directly under those words. Select one and click the "Apply Theme" button. If you want to customize your theme, see below:

If you've NEVER WORKED with your custom theme before:

After logging into 360, click on the "My Page" link next to your "Home" link. Then, at the top under that line of links is the word "Theme: [name of whatever theme you currently have]." Click the "Change Theme" link that's directly under those words.

On the new page that comes up, there's a paragraph stating "Select a Theme - Change the look of your Yahoo! 360° page by picking a theme. Click "Apply Theme" to make the change." Directly under that click a link called "Customize Your Theme." A new "Customize Your Theme" window will pop up where you can insert .jpg images as well as customize colors.

If you HAVE WORKED with the custom theme window before:

Click the "Edit Custom Theme" link toward the top left of your "My Page."

If you want an image to fill the entire 360 space, it should be at least 1064 pixels wide (or slightly more) by 2100 pixels in height. Upload the image as a single  background image and choose to tile it. If you want many breaks, then use a smaller image or reduce the size of the one that you have in a photo editor. You'll have to play around with it a bit to get it right (lower resolution, cropping, and other size adjustments get it under 360 specifications) by using a photo editor like Microsoft Paint, which is on most Windows computers in the Accessories section.

As far as colors go, scroll down in the popup window, past the upload image part, to get to where you can change colors. I copy and paste color codes from this site - http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.... . It's just faster that way.  You can also type the word - transparent - instead of a color code, so that your background shows through. OR you can just click on the little box next to the right of the item, move the color scroll bar up and down, then click around in the color square with your mouse (or click the transparent option).

Here is a directory of wallpaper/background sites: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2006/12/... . You can also search for images via keyword searches on Google at http://images.google.com . Right-click on the image and choose "Save Image As" or something similar to save an image to your hard drive.

REMEMBER: Your background picture must be JPEG formatted (.jpg, .jpeg, or .jpe as the extension) and under 250KB in file size.

TIP: If you are browsing public 360 pages and you see a theme that you like, click on "Make This Theme Mine" link to overwrite your theme with that one (located just above the counter on the Top Page - left side). This excludes pictures the person may have uploaded (i.e. images in the background).

    Good luck! Enjoy!
