Question:

On Yahoo Groups if I use the calendar to track my personal events and tasks, will group members see them?

When the calendar sends a reminder, it appears with a message number. Do all group members see the reminder or do I need to give the group access to my events and tasks? Does this mean that the number of messages will be different for each group member depending upon whether members are using the calendar and reminders for personal (non-group) business? I would like to use the calendar features of Yahoo group, but I do not want to publicize my personal business to the entire group. Are my calendar entries private?

  1. Nope, they are not. Every member can see that. But if you are the owner or the privileged moderator, you can restrict access to that section and here is how you can do that:

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/...

  2. You can use your own personal Yahoo Calendar instead of Yahoo Group Calendar to track your personal events and tasks which are not shared with your group. Go to http://calendar.yahoo.com/

  3. if you have the group calendar open to members, they can click on it and view any of whats on it. if the reminder is posted to the groups archives, it will be seen by any member who read via the web, and it sends out in e-mail to those on individual and digest mail. even if yo u limit access to the group calendar but have reminders sending out- they are for the whole group, not privately to the owner.

bottom line- a group calendar is just that: 'group'. if reminders post to the group and are in the archives, it's seen by all group members- I'd suggest using the calendar within Yahoo Mail.
