On a 1 to 100, what is the risk factor of flying in a small plane compared to a helicopter..?

..all things being equal. The higher the number the higher the risk. And lets not get too serious about details here, it's Yahoo. Thank you for your answers.

  1. Given good pilots and good maintenance, the risks should be very similar for both.  It's hard to compare because of the different flight profiles for the two types of aircraft.

    I personally would prefer the small plane.  If the engine fails, the plane will still glide quite readily.  Helicopters can theoretically use autorotation to glide to a landing as well, but a lot of things can go wrong in practice that may make a smooth autorotation landing difficult or impossible.
