  1. You would be better of going with 2 1GB sticks. But why not just get a 2GB stick of RAM? The reason I say that is because the more sticks of RAM you have, the worse the performance will be. RAM = Random Access Memory. The computer chooses a random location that contains enough free space to allocate the required memory. If you have multiple RAM sticks, then the computer will be jumping all over the place with 4 sticks of 512MB RAM. By "jumping" I mean it will have to search all over for free space.

If your computer allocates a 1MB section of RAM at the end of the last stick of RAM, your computer will have to search through every single stick of RAM, from beginning of RAM to end, and it will take quite some time. Especially if the majority of the remaining RAM is already used up.

It would hardly be noticeable with 2 1GB sticks. But 1 2GB stick would be the best bet. =)

  2. the difference between 4x512 and 2x1 on a modren amd socket am2 system is neglagable at best now that said what you could do is get 2x1gb sticks and add them to your already 2x512 and have 3gb
