  1. it is talking about the diameter of the wheel(s), not the height of the bike...

  2. A size in that range is probably referring to the wheel size, but frames do get up to 24" or so.  Your best bet is to go to a retailer and ask to be fit for a fixed-gear bicycle (possibly a BMX, if you want something trick-capable)

  3. ye bet ye.

  4. A size in inches refers to either the distance from the center of the Bottom Bracket (the center of the crank) to the the top of the seat tube (the tube where the seat goes in to) or the diameter of the tires. 24" almost certainly refers to tire diameter. Adult Mountain bike tires are 26" while  BMX bikes usually have 20" wheels.

A bike with only one gear is commonly referred to as a Single Speed. It is important to realize that a single speed bicycle can either be a fixie (your feet must rotate with the wheels like a track bike) or have a freewheel (what you are thinking of most likely).

  5. It's the size of the tires. You might want to reach for a 26" bike because it will go faster - even if you're riding down hill. I'm 5'4" and my 26" is perfect. My son is just under 5', and he prefers my bike over his 24" - it's more comfortable to him, he says. Try a couple of them out, and see which one feels more comfortable to you. Also, keep in mind you can adjust the height of the seat to reach the pedals better.

Sometimes, an adult bike with one gear is called a cruiser.

  6. a bmx bike and bikes are measured by the size of your tire

  7. It really depends on how long your legs are. Ask one of the reps to help you at a store. You will be able to get a better understanding of what size you need. Um gear wise I like bikes that have multiple gears especially if I am going up hill lol

  9. Joseph is correct.  24" is a reference to wheel diameter, not bicycle or frame size.  Mountain bike sizes are traditionally expressed in inches, and I don't think anyone makes one as large as 24 inches.  Road bike sizes are expressed in centimeters for traditional frames and in sizes like S, M, and L for the compact geometry style.

Check the link below on sizing. It will lead you to additional links.

At your height, you should be looking for an XS or something in the 48cm range, assuming you are referring to road bikes.  For smaller framed persons there are also road bikes with 650cm wheels (smaller than standard) which complicates the issue a bit.
