  1. well its printed on the front and its really a marketing statment and nothing more. it is "boasting" 40 watts to four channels, sometimes decks will say "160 WATTS TOTAL",  truth is it is more like 12-20 watts x 4 of reall power (RMS power). if your question is more about "what is a watt" it is simply a measure of how much volume the deck is pushing to the speakers. more wattage louder system, or at least thats what they want you to believe. there are many other factors to volume in a vehical, wattage is just one of them. if your question more about  "what is a channel"  well that is the amount of speakers that can hook up directly. anotherwords front right, front left, rear right and rear left. it means nothing more than that. you could hook up 10 pairs of speakers if you wanted, but they must share the power from the four channels, and will share the controls on the radio for balence and fader.

    Hope that answered the question.

  2. It means you have 4 speakers and they are 40 watt each.

    Good Luck...

  3. It means each speaker would get 40 watts of power, the two front and the two rear.Well techically the 40 watts are probably peak watts and the rms are what you listen countiously which are probably half of the peak. 20 rms are probably what each speakers is getting though.

  4. It can deliver 40 watts per channel, up to 4 channels. 2 in front, 2 in back, each getting 40 watts to the speaker.

  5. it sucks... no, really. that means that it is only pushing 40 watts to each of your 4 speakers (if you have more speakers it wont work for them.)
