On a clear night, why does more dew form in an open field than under a tree or beneath a park bench?

  1. an open field is subjected to more air whereas under a bench or a tree its being covered..


  2. The temperature of the air is slightly lower in the field than  under the tree and the bench as the air is cooled by convection. This is more restricted under the tree and the bench so the air here is warmer. Warmer air can hold more water vapour than coooler air so there is less condensation and therefore less dew.
