Hi, today I saw some Banquet Frozen Dinners for sale so I bought 10 Turkey Breast Dinners for 10 dollars. When I got home and read the label I learned the sauce contains some MSG(Dexatrine) or something. I'm currently on a diet is this really bad? When I was at the store I saw some Lean Cuisine that had same calories, and fat etc but Banquet was cheaper not sure if Lean Cuisine contains msg too. Is this bad for a diet?? Should I eat it? Thanks.

  1. MSG is a flavor enhancer.  I highly doubt that lean cuisine has that in their meals, but they might, just make sure you read the ingredients.  The only health issue for you or other people is that some people like myself are allergic to it.  It gives me migraines.  It should by no means encourage your body to gain weight :)

  2. Knowing that many consumers are dead set against MSG, many companies don't state it so obviously. Watch out for things like hydrolyzed proteins, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, food additive code E621 etc. I highly doubt that much processed foods these days can truly claim to be MSG-free.

By diet, I presume you mean a weight-loss diet rather than a diet for medical reasons. MSG by itself will not wreck your diet or affect your health significantly but too much processed food is unhealthy & fattening in the long run. You'll be surprised how much weight you can lose & feel tons better by cooking your own food & controlling the amount of salt, sugar & fats used.
