Question:

On a land line how does the charging end?

A 'Friend' used my landline to make a quick call to a mobile. But he did not hang up properly and the call remained live. I did not discover this for a couple of days so would I have a massive phone bill? He says I should have made sure he hung up correctly! If he does not pay can I take him to court?

  1. As far as i know, even if you don't replace the handset properely, the call terminates, as soon as the other caller has hung up.  If you are worried ring up your Land-line provider to check on this.

If they have made a charge and it is alot, i think he should contribute towards the cost.  I think its abit unfair of your friend blaming you for his action (not hanging up correctly) He used the phone and while he's on the phone he is responsible for replacing the hand-set correctly.

I doubt very much you have been charged, but check this out asap!

As far as court, thats abit extreme, also you wouldn't be able to prove anything, ie if someone lends someone alot of money, and there's no proof, the person would not be able to take the borrower to court.

  2. Thankfully, as this was a call to a mobile it should have terminated when the mobile user disconnected.

If it had been a land-line you called, then it would've racked up the bill...

I doubt you will be able to sue your mate...

  3. why dont you call the phone company and ask. presumably though even if your friend didnt hang up, the person on the mobile would have!! (so you'd be cut off!)

  4. no you let him use the phone

  5. Wont make a difference as long as the mobile he was calling hung up.....all you would get at your end is an annoying voice saying 'hang up the phone' did you not hear it? Maybe you don't get many calls.....by all means take him to Court, just for the fun of it.
