Question:

On a losing streak?

I am on a couple of pool teams (real pool not yahoo pool...8 and 9 ball). Anyway, I was getting better and now this session for some reason I am in a slump and haven't won a match yet which is not the end of the world but a little discouraging. I try and focus however I tend to now have the mind set I am going to lose even before the match starts which is obviously a detriment to my game. Any suggestions on how to work through this and start winning some matches or at least get past this negative mind set??

  1. Dr. B has ups and downs.  Sometimes, for a long number of days, I can't win anything.  Then, all of a sudden, I go on a winning streak.  Streaks plague us in all sports.  I would have confidence in my game and continue to go out and play.  You will find you can play yourself out of the streak.  Don't get down on yourself because even good players can lose.

  2. get out there and practice, try to get a couple hours in before your match

  3. I don't disagree with the other answers here but there is another approach you can try toward ending your losing streak and getting out of your slump.

Stop practicing. Don't play on league night if the team doesn't need your number to meet the 23 rule. Simply, take a week off.

Everyone comes across a slump period in sports, at work, or at most anything you can think of. I would guess that you're like most of us in that you're getting frustrated with your game so you keep trying to play your way through it. You're probably trying TOO hard.

Take a week off from pool and use the time to focus on work or school or your home and social life. It may be that one of those arenas need some attention and the underlying effect is that your pool game is suffering because of it. It's worth a try because "playing" isn't getting you out of your slump. I hope that helps to give you a different perspective.
