I have very poor credit history with some charge offs and some and a attempt for a lien, but my job has nothing to do with finances. My criminal and driving record is pristine as are my references. Will the credit issue prevent me from getting a job?

  1. It can.  This is a very competitive job market and every black mark counts.  Your bad credit history speaks to your judgment as well as to your lack of fiancial responsibility.

  2. It depends on their policies.

Your credit history is considered a reflection of your decision making skills and good judgement.  Thus chargeoffs where you borrowed money and didn't repay it don't look good.

While your job may not be financial, if you are expected to travel, you will be handling money....

  3. It could harm your chances of getting the job in that there's more of a chance that someone with bad past credit steals from the company.

  4. I wouldn't think so, but I don't think there's a standard about such things. Depends on what the employer wants.
