  1. I always thought it was shrimp and fries. I don't know for sure, though.

  2. no, any combination of sea and land.

  3. YES!!!!

  4. i think thats considered fish and chips.

  5. meat and fish/lobster combo

  6. Usually shrimp or lobster with steak.

  7. Surf and Turf is ANY seafood and ANY meat in combination ... but it is most often steak and lobster because that is what most people think of first.  My favorite 'surf and turf' is grilled oysters and lamb chops ... but I'm SPOILED and my chef (he's my husband) will fix me what I like to eat best because he loves me (and I have been having 'stomach problems' so don't eat much any more).

  8. It's meat (turf) and seafood  (surf)-- usually steak and lobster, but it can be any type of seafood. The menu will usually say what it consists of.

  9. "Surf and turf or Surf 'n' Turf is a main course particularly common in North American steakhouses which combines seafood and meat, usually American lobster tail or shrimp (usually either grilled or breaded and fried) and steak.

The term originated along the Atlantic coast of North America. Its earliest-known published use is in a 1967 advertisement in the Buffalo, New York Yellow Pages, placed by a restaurant called Michael's House of Steaks.[1] Jane and Michael Stern claim that it was served under this name in the SkyCity restaurant (in Seattle's Space Needle) at the 1962 World's Fair. In the Sterns' Encyclopedia of Bad Taste, Surf 'n' Turf epitomizes culinary kitsch: "the point ... is to maximize hedonistic extravagance" by ordering the two most expensive things on the menu; that is, the menu is guided not by aesthetic concerns, but for the sake of vulgar display.

The dish is becoming more popular in the United Kingdom, where the pub chain Wetherspoons has a "Surf and Turf" on its standard menu (consisting of a 10oz rump steak served with a portion of Scampi). The dish is also called "reef and beef" in Australia. At the American restaurant franchise Steak and Ale, the entrée is listed as "Steak and Tail.""

  10. Traditionally, "surf and turf" is steak and lobster, but modern versions include steak and shrimp, as well as steak and crab cakes.

The 2007 winner for "h**l's Kitchen" on Fox used crab cakes for his version of "surf and turf".

  11. well it can be a collection of steak and seafood.

The typical combination is ususally a small piece of steak, and a small piece of lobster, with some shrimp, or maybe a scallop of two.

  12. Any beef and any seafood.

    Surf - seafood

    Turf = cows eat it.

  13. Typically its any beef/shell fish combo.  Steak and shrimp is another popular one.

  14. Only high class restaurants use lobster. Its usually scampi and steak

  15. Surf, is anything from the sea. Turf, is anything from land. Couple them and you get surf and turf. Many combinations.

  16. Ask a waiter or waitress to be sure you aren't getting some food you don't want!

  17. i would choose steak

  18. shrimp or lobster and steak

  19. It can be steak and shrimp too. But I have always seen the meat as a steak.

  20. Any type of food from the sea and anytime of land animal

it can be shrimp and steak, cod and ribs, scallops and chicken

  21. It means any entree where one item is from land and the other from sea.

Used to be just steak and lobster, but now you have to read the description on the menu.

Shrimp and fries????  HA!  LOL.  Where do people come up with this stuff?

  22. Surf & Turf is usually steak and lobster but could be any form of beef and any form of seafood.
