On a sand filter which setting do you use for vacuming the pool?What should the gauge read?

You can use the filter setting but it will clog up the filter pretty quickly and you will have to backwash often to maintain good suction. Once the gauge goes 15psi above normal or you notice a reduction in suction it is time to backwash. You can also backwash to waste. This will give you the best suction and wont clog the filter by it wastes alot of water. The pressure gauge wont move because the water is bypassing the filter when on waste.
