On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the most) how screwed would we be?

If we were to travel through space and stumble upon technologically advanced and hostile life forms?

Advanced is another way of saying they are much smarter and powerful than we are.....

and then add hostile to it,

then you'd assume they'd be hostile toward US, releasing advanced techs that we'd have no clue on how to stop or even how it works  

hostile enemies usually don't stop and talk, they just KILL until they are defeated (but remember, they are more advanced)

I'd say we'd be 100% screwed. way off the 1 - 10 scale. (thats why they are considered "more advanced")

advanced also implies we ARE NOT..... so obviously they'd always have the upper hand.

but maybe a 1, cause we've got love in our hearts....

If we were able to go through space we would be pretty technologically advanced too.

How screwed would we be if they were even more advanced than us? Depends on how much more advanced they were. If you ever read Ender's Game we put up one h**l of a fight there (oh and read that book if you haven't).

Everyone answerers these alien invasion questions very negatively. I think we would have at least a fighting chance... I mean we have been perfecting war for tens of thousands of years and today we have gotten so good we could wipe each other at a whim... 8 times over.

Besides, space warfare is very difficult because of the long distances between stars. Excluding magical faster-than-light ships alien wouldn't have long supply lines while invading Earth... they would have no supply lines. So unless they through themselves at us whole heartedly at the expensive of there own civilization than we would have the upper hand.

But what do I know, I'm just an optimist =)

between here and the Moon?  that's just about as far as we have gone, you know.

if you are supposing that we suddenly have the technology to do a Daedalus project and send Men to the Stars (women, too... start with my Ex)... then, sure, we would probably be major screwed if we found another highly technological race.

what would the chances be that they would be exactly where we were on the Space Exploration time-line?  If it was our first encounter, they couldnt be Below us... so, they would have to be more advanced.

(of course, the chances of any of this happening are about the same as you winning the Lotto... without buying a ticket.)
