  1. About a 2, according to my source.

  2. I wouldn't know cuz I'm a girl. So I'm just gonna guess. 3.

  3. ...a lot less painful than raising a unwanted child!

  4. It depends on how many inches you are so for you I would say a 1.

  5. Not even a one ,maybe a half.

    Space.

  6. You will get a local anaesthetic.

    Pain about 1 to 3

It might be done with-- or without a scalpel(a tiny hole is made)

    Takes about 1/2 an hour

It's sensible to take it easy for a couple of days, but you can drive and go back to work as soon as you feel able.

Your testicles will be a bit tender for a few days. You can take pain-killers.

For as long as you need, wear close-fitting underwear, such as a jock strap, day and night. This will support your s*****m and help to ease any discomfort and swelling.

Don't do any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise during the first week after the operation

  7. thinking of the pain is worse. its only like a 1

  8. Agonizing if you want children afterwards.

  9. One.   Really not bad at all. A little swelling.

  10. If getting a tattoo is a 5, then getting a vasectomy is a 1.  That is if you follow instructions, then follow instructions, then after that follow instructions.  About 90% of men that get vasectomies don't follow instructions.  Did I make my point?  No I am not making fun of you.  I am just trying to save you some headache.  Just do what the doctor says and it will be a "piece of cake".

Don't listen to men that never had one.  They don't know.

I had mine done when I was 21.  I never had children.

  11. There are two types of pain with vasectomy, acute and chronic.

The acute pain from the procedure is trivial and is easily managed with Tylenol, ice, and rest. It lasts a few days, and most mild residual is gone in a week or two. Most men miss two or three days from work.

The more important issue is the incidence of chronic pain. It is estimated to be as high as 15%. Here is a study from the medical literature to illustrate my point:

Between November 2004 and January 2006 nine surgeons carried out vasectomies in 625 men (mean age 39.9 years, sd 5.6) under local anaesthesia. A questionnaire was devised to establish the presence of any scrotal or testicular pain, and to characterize this discomfort; 6 months after the procedure a modified version of the same questionnaire was administered. RESULTS: In all, 593 (94.7%) men returned the preoperative questionnaires and were entered into the study; 488 (82.2%) of these completed the follow-up questionnaire, giving a mean (sd) follow-up of 6.8 (1.6) months. In all, 65 men reported new-onset scrotal pain at 7 months (14.7%). The mean visual analogue score for this pain was 3.4/10. Four men (0.9%) in the responding group described pain after vasectomy as 'quite severe and noticeably affecting their quality of life'. CONCLUSION: At 7 months after vasectomy about 15% of previously asymptomatic men have some degree of scrotal discomfort. These early data indicate that chronic scrotal pain after vasectomy is a genuine entity, but a longer-term follow-up in this group will be important to allow further evaluation of how this pain develops with time.

So, you see, the acute pain is a non-issue. The chance of chronic pain is the real problem with vasectomy.

Do a Yahoo! search for "post-vasectomy pain" and see how many hits you get. Read the info on several sites. You won't hear about it from the surgeon...

  12. Though I have not had a vasectomy, I've had several friends who have.  Only one of those had problems, and the rest said it was not a big deal at all.  The only one who had a problem came back to work after his surgery (before lunch) and stayed the rest of the day.  We just about had to carry him to his car that evening.  He missed the next two days of work.  In my inexperienced opinion, as long as you follow your doctor's advice, pain, if any, should be minimal.
