On a sniper scope their are numbers at the bottom of the scope when your in view .What do they Mean?

When your looking into the scope at the bottom numbers like 4 and 6 are their what do they mean

  1. are those numbers near some kind of decrescent grid?

    if yes, normally you spot one "5 feet" figure on the grid, see where it matches the grid, and look up the number: for examples, grid 4 = 400 meters /yards is the distance of the target.


  2. It sounds like there is a range finder built in to the reticle. You would need to find out what target height the range finder is calibrated for (i.e deer size, human size, etc). If there are a series of lines next to the numbers, you would simply put your target on the bottom line (or between two curved vertical lines, depends on the type of finder) and see where the top of the target touches. Whatever number its closest too is the distance you are from that target (in meters or yards, again it depends on the scope reticle calibration).
