On a yz85 what is the hole in the crankcase cover under the water pump for? why is it leaking coolant?

this hole is on the outside face of the crankcase cover .between where the h20 pump housing bolts up and it butts up to the crankcase. it is the size of a coffee straw.

  1. most of the japanese bikes have this, and it is on no concern. The hole is the impeller area on the case, and is there to let of excessive pressure in the cooling system. from time to time, you will see a little coolant leaking out of this hole, but this is normal. just before you ride the next time, check the coolant level in the radiator.


  2. Well. From what your saying, it could be where a bolt is supposed to be. I know that if you take one bolt out of the water pump area, coolant will leak out.

    But I don't know what kind of hole your talking about.
