  1. Skin cracks are normally found by visual inspection. Eddy current and X-ray are used to inspect structures that cannot be inspected visually.

  2. eddy current is the preferred way for the exterior skin. Dye penetrate can also be used. When it comes to the inner doubler's x-ray is used. Comes to the door stops eddy current ,then dye penetrate ,then x-ray.  It is normally outlined how to it by the manufacture or by aircraft owner`s agreement with the manufacture. Always beware of the ad`s and service bulletins . They will override the basic ways.

  3. Generally, on commercial aircraft the MPD or MRB will have a task card written to perform the inspections that you are inquiring about. They are typically aligned with the structural checks that are required on a calendar basis. Those will have the method of inspection written into them.

I assume it would be an eddy-current inspection, or an x-ray.
