Question:

On all of my irons I am hitting the ball of the heel of the club.?

My driver is perfect though. I tried lining up the club between me and the ball. Kind of with the toe of the club just touching the ball. This worked fine for a while. I shot my first 70's round ever. Now...I can't hit the ball. Off the heel constantly.

  1. take your irons to a club fitter this is a example of the lie of the club being to upright . will cost at the most 300 per club to have lie adjusted . it is not your swing , this time you can blame the club

  2. Two things might have happened. You may be reaching for the ball or your swing plane has changed. Instead of lining up the ball more off the toe, you may be lining up to the center of the club face and your normal swing takes the club more to the outside causing you to hit at the heel of the club. Then you may have flattened the swing plane causing you to hit at the heel of the club rather than the center of the face. If you broke 80 you may get a very easy fix from your golf professional. All you need is a little" tweaking " not a significant change.

  3. let me guess. You position your ball further forward (toward the green) with the driver, but between your feet with the irons.

The arc has come in a bit with the driver, but the irons are crowded.

Shuffle back a bit from the ball with the irons

  4. Now try to focus on your mechanics. Smooth Tempo, good positioning, and an inside to out swing path are the keys. TIming is everything as well. I say just get to the range for a week. Then go back to the couse. Find your error and correct it.

  5. well if your hitting in the 70's I might wanna take some lessons from you.. But if your constantly hitting off the heel on your irons Either your standing to close or your bent to far over the ball and its causing the club face to turn in and hit hte heel. Also just take it nice and easy let the irons do the work .. smoot back swing and nice follow thru  keep ur head down and eye on the ball until your swing is complete . Shooting in the 70's in a great accomplishment go back to the range and play around try differnt shots until you find what you were doing . Once you find it hold on to it..

  6. s***w all of what everyone else said, you dont need to take your clubs anywhere except the driving range, dont take thenm to a pro around you, go to the range and try this, if you're hitting it on the heel, that tells me that you may be peeking, this is what i suggest, take a golf glove, put it under your right arm pit, and dont let the glove drop during the swing, do it a few times until you can keep it in there without the glove, also, make sure you keep your head down, and stop peeking, make sure the ball is gone for at least 2 seconds before you look up.

  7. As the clubs get shorter your chin/head moves down at setup.  Try holding your chin/head up a bit to loosen your swing back up (like when you hit the driver). Just a thought.
