Most meets start at 8 or so and are finished by lunch.

my middle school meets lasted about 3 hours because we had 4 categories that ran seprately

a dual meet will be about 2 hours. A large invitational will be at least all day (ie 11a-6p).

a dual meet can last 2 hrs. Bigger meets last alot longer, they usually start in the morning around 10 and can go until 3. For all meets you need to get there about a hour in advance to warm up and stuff. Then in large meets there can be different races that your team mates are running in, like JV, Freshman race and varsity so that makes it longer. Some times there are races for different divisions like large schools and small schools. Sometimes you can leave right after you run but if your team stays for awards you have to wait for the end which can take a while.
