On average, how many calls do cops have to respond to everyday?

i live in california and was just wondering. and how many of them are emergencies and how many are just complaints. how many cars do they pull over a day? thanks to all who answered.

  1. I patrolled LA for 7 years. I probably averaged ten to twenty calls a shift. It varies because of the type of crime your investigating and wether or not you make an arrest. These take up much of the time for an officer. Then there's all the report writing. Then there's all the false alarm and duress activations. Each day is entirely different and its tough to answer your question with an exact number.


  2. You're looking at a huge variance. Obviously, the population of the community  that the agency is responsible for and the number of officers on the street are going to be big factors, but the call volume could change drastically from one day to the next for a single department.

    Edit: A slow day for me is maybe two calls (not including domestics) in a 10 hour shift that I'm assigned primary to.  As a backup officer, I can respond to multiple calls over the course of the day but generally don't have to deal with all the paperwork. A busy day is when there are three or four calls holding at any one time.
