Question:

On average, how many seats per row are there on an airplane?

My fiance and I are hoping to take our children on a vacation, and we'd rather fly then pay for all that gas. The problem with flying is that between the two of us, we have 6 children from previous relationships. We have 3 children under the age of 2, so we were wondering how we're going to do seating arrangements... we were hoping that we could have it so I could sit with two, and he with one, or vice versa.

Haha, I hope that made sense. It's very hard to explain =]

Thanks for any info!

  1. Depends on the plane and what class you are in.

Assuming you are flying in economy:

an A-310 may have 2 4 2(2 on the left, four in the middle, and 2 on the right).

    a 747 may have 3 4 3.

Check the website below for details specific to each airline.

  2. First check your route (airline, date and equipment -airplane-)

Then go to below and see the individual arrangements:

    http://www.seatguru.com/

  3. It just depends on the plane.  You can call the airline and ask what type of plane you will be flying on and then check the website www.seatguru.com and it will show you a map of the plane that will help you in picking seats.

If its a domestic flight, there will probably be 3 seats on either side of the aisle.

  4. you need to talk to the airline about this, and try to get assigned seats together before you leave. .

airlines have been cutting down and now United, for one, on most of their flights has only four seats per row instead of six (they are cutting back to using smaller (and older) planes for better gas mileage (and to avoid waste)

There USED to be 3 seats on each side of the aisle, but, at least on most of United's domestic flights, not any more.  On one recently I flew (United from Indy to Pitt), they had only ONE seat on one side of the aisle, and two on the other, so only three seats in each row on that smaller plane.

  5. It is different depending on the size of the plane. If you book your tickets online most carriers will give you a diagram of the plane and let you choose your seats. The earlier you do it the more seats will be available.

  6. It depends on the plane.  Your reservation will usually have the type of plane listed, and you can find seating charts of the planes on most airline websites.  I would call ASAP and try to get your seats arranged to make sure you all have seats together.

Many short distance flights have only 2 seats on each side of the plane, so 4 per row.  However, if the flight is a decent distance, the plane usually has at least 3 on each side.  Planes traveling cross country from major airports will sometimes be much bigger, but many airlines are cutting back on the use of those.  They have 7-9 across a row, usually with 3 sections.
