Question:

On average, when was the Universe created?

The Universe is expanding. And, the expansion is speeding up. I've heard that more than half of the volume of the Universe has been created in something like the last three billion years. So, at what point was the Universe half of it's current volume?

Yes, the Universe may in fact be infinite in size. So it may be a bit difficult to talk about half or twice infinite..

  1. Suitti, I know you know the standard textbook answer of 13.7 billion years so I don't really understand your question.

Ah Ha! Now I get it. This is a math thing;) Accounting for expansion.

That leaves me out. Good luck;) Broad concepts only (with any confidence) for this brain:)

EDIT: Thumbs up for trying Spazzy. At least you got the Hubble Constant part of the equation.

  2. the universe wuz created approximately 10 billion yearz ago.

  3. 15 billion years ago

  4. 13.2 Billion Years

  5. Hmm. Guess I have to research the Hubble Constant. BRB

*This math is going to give me a head ache*

    The Hubble constant is 70.1 +or- 1.3 (km/s)/Mpc

I calculated the size of the universe to be 47272 Mpc.

There are about 30 trillion km in a parsec and 30 quintillion (10^18) km in a megaparsec so I calculate the Hubble Constant to be about 2.34x10^-15 (Mpc/s)/Mpc.

*uhg... I don't know if I'm doing this right*

Lets see, that means we are currently gaining 1.10461x10^-10 Mpc per second.

*Now I'm just spurting out random calculations*

*I know there should be some integrals somewhere*

I give up. I wasn't really going anywhere and I never really understood why the distances can cancel out leaving Hertz. The whole thing gives me a headache. I hope I'm gonna learn this stuff comes up in class some day.

Hopefully you'll be able to pull something of use out of this physics mess I set up.

  6. Awhile back. Sorry. At present, or in future presents, with present knowledge, it is impossible to judge how large the universe is or when it came into being.

  7. 13 billion, don't get the age of the Universe confused with the age of Earth.
