How long do kittens take to open their eyes and be weened?

My cat had her first litter yesterday, and I just want to know what's the norm. for kittens to grow up. I would like to know this because two of them have owners waiting to take them home, and also how much time I have to find good homes for the other two.

Thanks for all your help.

  1. They should be with mom for at least 8 weeks, but the longer the better.

  2. about 8 weeks, wait until the kittens eyes have open, they are actively exploring their world and most important have been weaned off mum for a week or so!

  3. well since licensed and registered breeders are the only people that should be allowed to breed you should know all of this.

if you are just one of those backyard breeders you should have done some research.  make an appointment at the vet for her to be spayed in 6 weeks.

Don't you know that there are not enough homes for the kittens we already have in the world, you don't need to be adding more.  if you want kittens go to the shelter and adopt them.

for every 1 kitten your cat had, AT LEAST 2 kittens in shelters will be euthanized because there are not enough homes.

  4. The kittens open their eyes in about 9-14 days.  They will be weaned by about 6 weeks old but they need to stay with their mother until at least 8 weeks old.  After weaning, the mom teaches her kittens survival and social skills they'll need for their whole lives.  Please have mom spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned and keep her away from any intact males until then.
