  1. £3.50 per hour per child is the going rate in our area (Aylesbury), but anything in the range £3.25-£4 is not unheard of. There are quite a few "wrinkles"

    * You might pay a little less for a child who spends all day, every day at the childminder.

    * Some childminders give discounts for siblings.

    * Costs such as meals provided by the childminder (£1 per meal is typical), and entry to facilities, will be extra. Note that childminders often get a special rate (e.g. at soft play facilities); some pass this on, some charge you the full rate.

    * What happens when you or the childminder are on holiday? Each childminder sets their own policy, which can have quite an impact on the true cost.

When we looked around we found no obvious link between the quality of the childminder and the price; we met quite a few, and our favourite was (in our view) much better than all the others, was rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and was the cheapest.

  2. It varies in areas and as to the age of the child and what you have to do for the child - I think in the region of £5 a hour

  3. Depends on where you live, their qualifications and their reputation locally.

  4. It depends on their qualifications, how many children they are looking after, and the scope of their responsibilities, whether it is through an agency, also if it is a longterm fixed contract or not. Anything from 5-10 pounds an hour in London.

  5. I pay mine about 3.75 an hour.

  6. How much will a childminder cost?

You might expect to pay between £135 and £400 per week for a full-time place for your child with a childminder, according to the Daycare Trust. However, the typical cost of a full-time under-two's place with a childminder in England is £141. Childminders are self-employed, so you won't have to pay any tax on top of the fee. Again, the more intense the demand, the higher the prices will probably be.

How much will it cost to hire a nanny?

A nanny is usually the most expensive childcare option. When you hire a nanny you become an employer, and you will have to pay tax and National Insurance for your employees.

According to the latest NannyTax survey, the average take-home salary for a nanny ranges from £258 to £328 per week, depending on where you live. You may also want to offer other benefits. Some nannies have a car to use, or perks such as private health care or membership of a health club.
