Hey I'm thinking about possibly getting a miniature horse. But now I need to figure out all the costs. So for all you mini horse owners, how much does it cost each month to care for a mini horse if you have them on your own property. Please include all the costs and what they are for. Thank you!!!

  1. I got one cheap.500-1000 or there over priced.

  2. Probably the same to own a regular horse vet wise. Your feed bill probably won't be as high as a horse seeing they don't eat as much as they do. But the only thing I might see as being higher, is possibly the farrier bill. They would have to bend over ALOT more than regular horses. Some not all farriers charge more when the equine is smaller. It just depends

  3. Hi, my family and I own, show, breed, and train miniature horses. We show at Rated AMHR shows, too. Honestly, miniature horses can be just as expensive as a regular sized horse. Ive seen an amazing looking stallion for $10,000. If you are interested in showing your mini, look for Boones Little Buckeroo, or Immortal Rowdy in their bloodlines. You can easily find an ugly boring mini for about $600. At our barn, the least my aunt spent was $500, and the Most she spent was $1,200. The one she bought for $500 actually turned out to become our farm stud. The price depends on really want you plan to do with your mini. If you do want a nice mini and want to show and actually win, you'll have to pay over $1000, for sure.

Also, DO NOT RIDE MINIS! Their backs can not hold that much weight. If you can ride your mini, then it is NOT a mini. It would obviously be a pony. A mini is 38 inches and under. Beware of dwarfs.

And you feed them everything you'd feed a regular horse. A handful of grain would do, and half a flake of hay. Their not too expensive.

  4. I see good ones at the auction going for $200-$300 if broke to ride and registered ones from $300 to $400 This is in the NE Ohio area.

  5. I do not own miniature horses.  My neighbor gave his 4 away free of charge, his grandchildren did not want them any longer.  I have seen minis for sale for 2000 and up, but these were show animals that were trained to drive.  Most people use miniatures as companions to other larger riding animals,or just as lawn ornaments. They tend to be short lived.  It costs the same for vet care for a mini as is does for a large horse- vaccinations on one of y horses this year was over 200.00 not including the coggins test.  Farrier charges are the same for minis as horses, although probably not every 6 weeks.Feeding costs are relatively little, minis do not require lots of grain, just good quality grass hay or less quality pasture.

  6. costs will vary so much, depending on where you live for example.

the price of hay and feedstuffs are continually changing.  then there is the cost of a farrier, worming and vet bills (but hopefully not) to be considered.  insurance if needed.

i would take a guess that if you allowed £80.00 per month you should get quite a lot of change. i've based that on a winter stabled pony, which is the most expensive time for horse owners.

going to shows will be extra but would be worth it for the fun.

  7. $500 in california
