  1. generally speaking you just have to be married to qualify for On base housing.  the waiting lists can vary..and be as long as 2 years, depending on location.

  2. Base housing isn't rank dependent.

    Singles live in the barracks.

Married can live in base housing.

Typically most bases have a waiting list from 2 weeks to 6 months to get into base housing.

Most bases have different housing areas, for different rank groups.

IE. they put the lower enlisted together, the middle enlisted together then the senior enlisted together.

    Same for officer.

Without dependents, you never get a house on base, its either the barracks or you get permission to live off base.

  3. Atleast in Lejeune the housing was based on rank.  Sgt and below lived in Midway Park, TT1 or TT2.  SNCOs or junior enlisted that had larger families lived in their own area.  CWOs and company grade officers lived in their own area and so on.  You have to be married or a single WM who got pregnant and had a baby while already enlisted and chooses to live in base housing, to receive base housing.

My wife and I were both active duty so we lived off base and both collected BAH.  I was a Sgt and she was a Cpl so we decided that I would collect BAH w/ dependents and she got it w/o dependents rate.  I liked living off base better.  I worked with Marines all day long it was nice to go home and not be surrounded by them.  Plus, I didn't have to worry about any of the bullshit rules for base housing or deal with the petty c**p that goes on.

Like was mentioned before the waiting list depends on which base you are stationed at.  When he checks in part of his check in process, if he chooses, will be to go to base housing to get on the list.

  4. No specific rank..You have to be married or an officer to get on base housing..

  5. Standard DoD policy is E-4 with over 2 years service to occupy MFH, however installation commanders have wide latitude either way based upon demand and availability.  I've seen cases where single troops were actually authorized in MFH and others where an E-7 had a multi-year wait for family housing.

  6. it does not matter what rank you have to be to get base housing.

to get base housing you have to have a family.

OFFICERS without family do not get base housing. They will stay in officer barracks or they can live outside. My dad is an officer and we have lived in base housing a few times and it kinda sucked because they had some retarded rules and plus they take all your B.A.H!!

My husband and I are staying in military housing right now because we are in a foreign  country and I can't speak Japaneses so I refuse to get out of base housing
