  1. Nice dream but whoever told you that absolutely has no clue.  You will be provided a barracks room unless they are at capacity (however, if they are at capacity the senior guys will get to move out first).  You can always choose to get a place out in town but you will not recive a hoursing allowance.

  2. "a current enlisted man told me that i was able to get off base housing if i had proff of having a cat/dog for at least a year"

Someone sounds like and idiot!  However, just because your newly enlisted does not mean you cant live offbase.  My current station has no base housing and no barracks.  Everyone assigned to my unit lives off base where they choose.  I am in a multi-service unit (Army/Air-Force/Marines/Navy) and this applies for everyone of every rank from E-1 to O-6.

Just incase you are not lucky enough to get this type of unit, I advise you to take early precautions and set up a home for your pet with a relative until you can make the living arrangements that you require.

  3. you can get housing while being married, not for a dog.....just do a contract marriage.

  4. They lied to you.

That might work, if you were authorized to live off base at a previous duty station, and pcs'ed to a new duty station.

But after basic and AIT, you will live in the barracks untill you are an

    E-4 or E-5.

It all depends on the base.

Singles have no right to live off base,

It is all up to the Base Commander and based on Barracks availaility.

  5. no

  6. no.   pet ownership has no bearing.. your marital status and paygrade do.  Single below E4 will not be authorized to live off base.  No pets are allowed in the barracks.

besides.. you wouldn't be able to bring a pet to basic Training or school anyway.  and what if your first duty station is OCONUS?

  7. no! unless if your wife is a dog or cat!

  8. That is a new one to me. Did your recruiter tell you that? If you are not married and there is space for you in the barracks, you will live in the barracks, pets or no pets. If by some chance you get stationed in a place where the barracks space is limited and you have reached a certain rank (usually e-4) you may be authorized off base housing. A dog or cat will not do it for you. Sorry!
