On cruise ships and ocean liners, what is a whirlpool?

A whirlpool is a hot tub, spa, jacuzzi...wotever terminology you prefer

Its just a hottub. There are usually about 4 or so on a cruise.

i do believe its a hot tub a place to unwind ,  there are several on the ship . but do be careful not to be sucked under lol. kidding

You answered your own question!! Very rare, but the phenominom does exist. So make sure your life insurance is paid up. Whole ships have been known to vanish!!
