  1. This is something I do before selling anything.

I search the closed auctions and see what amount people generally GET when they sell a similar item. NOT what they list it for, but when they SELL one.

BTW, Ive been using ebay since '99 and the one thing I do know...Your photo makes all the difference.  I spend a lot of time on my presentation.   I generally sell everything Iist, because of that.  People sit a figurine on a dirty kitchen counter, and expect it to be attractive.  *If they dont like the photo..they do not read anything.*

  2. Try looking up comparable items in the list of things that have already sold.   You can find auctions that have ended by going into the advanced search option.   Also look to other places besides ebay.  Look up what the art items may have sold for in other art auctions or the general value of that particular artists work.  For sewing and embroidery that you create (that's particularly hard to sell on ebay just so you know, you may want to try etsy.com instead for that) you take the cost of materials and calculate the approximate number of hours spent on the work then charge an hourly rate of probably like $3-$4 to start and just see if people are willing to pay that price.  If not lower it, if yes then try raising it a little bit until no one will buy, then lower it again to find your market.

Baseball and football cards have books that tell you their value.  And you can have antiques appraised.
