Increase the output of solar panel must be possible using mirrors.

  1. Yes. Concentrating the light will boost the output. Watch out that you don't exceed the temperature limits which will be easy to do. Another way to boost light is to keep turning the panels to face the sun.

  2. Yes, but the Heliostats (another name for mirror) would have to track the Sun. That may consume more energy than it would be worth. It effectively increases the aperture of collection. It also increases it both on sunny days and on overcast so on the sunny days you run the risk of damaging the array. Of course, you could build in automatic monitoring devices to control this but would it be worth the trouble and expense? The cost would exceed the cost of larger arrays which would have the advantage of simplicity and so reliability.

  3. The angle depends on a lot of things, like where the sun is and where the mirror is. Bottom line, if you slide a piece of cardboard in front of the mirror, the light on the array should go down.

The problem is that the mirror will work only when the sun is at one angle. As soon as it moves, the mirror will be useless. Parabolic mirrors are the only ones that work when the sun is at different angles.

but watch out that you don't overheat the array. They are not made for the high intensity light and heat caused by mirrors.

edit, as I think about it, I think the mirrors are not worth the trouble. They will only be effective for maybe an hour when the sun is at the proper angle, and may actually block the sun when it is lower. And they will have to be cleaned frequently or they will lose their effectiveness.

  4. Not at 45.  That will only reflect light to the other mirror.  Needs to be stepper than 45.

Remember, from grade 12 physics, that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence.
