On guitars, how does a rosewood fretboard sound different than a maple one?

  1. I have usually associated the fretboard with how it feels more than how it sounds.  I'd bet it would make more of a difference on an acoustic than an electric.


  2. If you don't know then it doesn't matter anyway.

  3. 90% of the sound of an electric guitar comes from the pickups and the electronics and the quality of strings, there have been some people who have chipped their guitars so bad to where they cracked, and the sound completely went horribly flat, i think its because it screwed with the electronics or something... but yea, the neck shouldn't change anything about the sound.

  4. It doesn't dude. Just a higher quality wood and looks nicer and lasts longer.

  5. The type of wood on a fretboard DOES make a difference. A Rosewood fretboard will give a warmer sound, with less "bite" to it. A Maple board will be brighter and have a bit more definition to the sound. An Ebony fretboard is even brighter than Maple.
