  1. no two competetors share medals. LIke the jamaicans who both got second place, the got two DIFFERENT medals. the just shared the position, nothing else

  2. yes, when there is a tie two players will share the medal

  3. Actually, it depends on the sport. It happened in Athens in swimming and has happened in Beijing in running. However, it is not allowed in gymnastics...just look at today when Nastia Liukin and He Kexin from China scored the exact same score in uneven bars finals. Since ties aren't allowed in gymnastics, they followed some kind of tiebreaking formula that gave Kexin the gold.

  4. jamaica shared the silver in 100m

    it happened in swimming

also check out greco-roman wrestling, it happens alot, they share the bronze alot

  5. Yes & No

    1.  In weightlifting, ties are broken by awarding the higher place to the athlete with the lower body weight. Incredibly, this worked to Anderson’s advantage when he tied for first with Humberto Selvetti of Argentina. Selvetti weighed 143.5kg.

    2.  SALT LAKE CITY Olympics 2002... "Jamie Sale and Elena Berezhnaya climbed the medals podium hand-in-hand to cheers of a packed arena, while David Pelletier and Anton Sikharulidze chatted like dear old friends.

Bound together in history by scandal, the pairs figure skaters are now linked forever by a medal.

Standing next to Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze, their Russian co-champions, Sale and Pelletier accepted the gold that was awarded Friday in an extraordinary move by the International Olympic Committee."

"Sale and Pelletier accepted their medals from International Skating Union president Ottavio Cinquanta, who made the recommendation to award the duplicate golds and who suspended the judge in the middle of the uproar for misconduct."

  6. Yes. If, for example, two swimmers tie for first then they both get a gold medal. The third place finisher would get bronze. No silver medal awarded in that case. If they tie for second, two silvers are awarded, and no bronze is given. If they tie for third, two bronze medals are awarded.

These scenarios have happen in this year's Olympic games.

  7. Yes,if you mean can two people tie and therefore win the same medal.

If there is a tie for 1st: gold, gold and bronze are awarded

If there is a tie for 2nd: gold, silver and silver are awarded
