On-loan defender pleased with faith shown in him by Leicester City manager
On-loan Leicester City defender Curtis Davies says he is thankful to Sven Goran Eriksson for the faith he has shown at him since making the switch to the Football League Championship side.
Davies moved to Leicester from English Premier League outfit Aston Villa in October and his good performances in the Championship have helped the club move out of the relegation zone and into 19th place in the league.
The centre-back has extended his stay at Walkers Stadium until January, and hopes that excelling with the Foxes can help him stake a claim for a regular place at Villa when he returns to Gerard Houllier's side while claiming that he has once again learned
to enjoy playing football.
According to the Mirror, he said: “Sven lets me get on with it and has the confidence to allow me to express myself and show what I am about. Going into games Sven says, ‘Play how you play’ and for him to think I’m good enough without overly instructing
me means a lot. This is the first time I have been able to play for a year in a run of games.
“I’m more upbeat as I feel it is football again now ― it is not (only) going to work. It sounds stupid but there was a time at Villa when it was like getting up and going to a job which it shouldn’t be like. Now I feel like I am going in every day, enjoying
it and playing well.”
The 25-year-old moved to Villa in 2008 for a fee of £10m after impressing manager Martin O'Neill while on a season-long loan deal from West Bromwich Albion.
Davies has made more than 100 appearances in the EPL, and is a former England Under-21 international, having claimed three caps for the youth team.
