On military bases, after boot camp, are there shooting ranges to practice shooting?

I'm joining the army and I think I'm going to be leaving in the next month, active duty, not sure what MOS I want to do yet. I really don't want to go to fight in the war, I would never want to kill someone, but if I end up getting deployed I want to make sure I'm ready for some arabs. What is there for me to train on after I get out of bct and I'm on an army base? Such as gyms, shooting ranges, and anything else that would aide me in battle?? Thank you I would really appreciate it if any military personnel could help me out. Thanks.

  1. During Boot Camp and after as well.. You don't stay proficient in a weapon if you don't practice

  2. If you don't want to fight and kill don't join.

That being said, there are ranges but you can't just go shooting for fun on a Saturday morning.  Weapons and ammo are kept under tight control.  You will go when your unit goes.

    There are gyms.

  3. Your Army post will have plenty of ranges.  Back in the day, you would be required to qualify with your assigned personal weapon at least once per quarter.

You would also do other ranges as part of an 1 year training cycle -- small unit local training, large unit local training, National Traning Center -- as part of each of those cycles, you will use your personal weapon and your crew served weapons.

The operational tempo is a bit different these days, but you should not worry about getting out of practice.  You will get plenty of shooting practice.

If you just want to use your own personal weapons, pretty much every post in CONUS has some form of rod & gun club.  The annual fee for active duty is usually something like $15 bucks.  Outside of the US, you might run into some host country issues if you want to go shooting.  In some places, you need to keep your own firearms locked up in an arms room and have limited options for shooting them.

  4. Yes, you will have qualify with your weapons on a regular basis.

  5. Some bases have them and some don't. I use to be in the Air Force and some of the bases I was stationed at didn't have a whole lot and then there were bases that were like small cities. So it all depends on were you get sent.
